TO OPTIMIZE VARIOUS PROCESS PARAMETER DURING THE WELDING ON MILD STEEL USING AISI 304 STAINLESS STEEL ELECTRODE

Abstract


Modern era industrial products which have been providing the success of mankind, receive their development and reliable effective performance in welding. Welding is a fabrication process which is used in the large industries as well small industry to fabricating and repairing metal products. This process is use in the field of Air craft industry and also in the general repair work. In industrial work there are 45 to 60% of work is carry out through welding process. The gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process has been extensively used for the fabrication of various structures ranging from bridges and machinery to all kinds of sea-going vessels to nuclear reactors and space vehicle. MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding also known as MAG (metal Active Gas) welding and in the USA as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) is a Welding process used a variety of materials Ferrous and Non-Ferrous. In Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG), also known as Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, an electric arc is formed between the work piece and a consumable bare wire electrode. Mild steel plates having size of 100x100x10 mm which were cut from the flats using power hacksaw for welding. The austenitic stainless steel solid wire of the type AISI 304 of diameter 1.2 mm was used in the present work.
