BER Comparison of DCT-Based OFDM and FFT-Based OFDM using M-PSK and M-QAM Modulation in an AWGN environment

Abstract


In this paper, the Bit Error Rate performance of Fast Fourier Transform-based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing system is compared with Discrete Cosine Transform-based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing using M-Phase Shift Keying (M-PSK) and M-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (M-QAM) as a modulation technique over Additive White Gaussian Noise environment. From the results it is clear that the BER shift in case of Discrete Cosine Transform-based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing is less then compared to BER shift in case of Fast Fourier Transform-based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing system and M-QAM modulation shows better BER performance as compared to M-PSK. Hence Discrete Cosine Transform can be considered better transform technique in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing System over conventional Fast Fourier Transform technique and M-QAM is better modulation in OFDM then M-PSK.
